Anaheim, CA · Full Pool Remodel

A Plain Backyard Pool, Rebuilt Around a Custom Rock Slide

This Anaheim pool went from a dated kidney with a diving board to a backyard with its own sculpted rock slide — plus a StoneScapes Tropics Blue pebble finish, Aquabella tile, a new Baja shelf, and all-new plumbing and equipment underneath it.

The Project

What This Backyard Needed

A sound pool with tired everything — and a yard with room for something far more interesting than a diving board.

The pool itself was structurally fine. What had aged out was everything you actually look at and touch: blotchy plaster, dated coping, plain tile, and a diving board that nobody in the household used any more. The homeowners did not want a like-for-like refresh — they wanted the backyard to become somewhere the family would actually spend the summer.

So we built them a full remodel around a custom rock slide. It is sculpted on site over a block core beside the pool, with stairs and a seating alcove worked into the rock and a full-length flume running down to the water. Around it: a StoneScapes Tropics Blue mini pebble finish, 6x6 Aquabella Himalaya Tibet waterline tile with North Seas NS/2101 Polar trim, poured-in-place coping in a custom color, and a new Baja shelf. Underneath, the parts nobody sees but everybody feels — the skimmer and underground plumbing lines replaced, and a new pump, filter and pool light.

FAQ

Pool Rock Slides & Anaheim Remodels — Common Questions

How much does it cost to add a rock slide to a pool?
A custom rock slide is one of the larger add-ons you can build into a pool. Ours run $25,000 and up depending on scale — the height, the length of the flume, how much sculpted rock surrounds it, and whether steps and a seating area are built in like they were on this Anaheim project. Smaller water features cost far less: bubblers and deck jets start around $3,000. Every slide is quoted individually because no two are the same shape.
Can you add a rock slide to an existing pool?
Yes. This one was added to a pool that had been in the ground for years. The slide is built on its own footing beside the pool rather than resting on the shell, so the existing structure does not have to carry it. The practical requirement is space and access — you need room alongside the pool for the structure and a path to get material into the yard. A full pool remodel is the natural time to do it, since the pool is already drained and the deck is already open.
Are pool rock slides safe for kids?
They are, when they are built properly. The things that matter are landing depth, a flume that runs water the whole way down so nobody sticks halfway, and a set of steps with real tread rather than something improvised. This slide was built with integrated stairs and a seating alcove in the rock, so climbing up is as considered as coming down. Slides should always empty into the deeper part of the pool, never over a shallow shelf.
When should you replace a pool light?
Replace it when it stops working, when moisture gets into the fixture, or when you are already remodeling. That last one matters most: the pool has to be drained to change a light properly, so doing it during a remodel costs a fraction of what it costs as a standalone visit. We replaced the light on this Anaheim job for exactly that reason. Older incandescent fixtures are also worth swapping for LED, which draws far less power and lasts much longer.
How much does a full pool remodel cost in Anaheim?
It depends entirely on scope. A resurface on its own starts at $9,850 including demo, return fittings, drain covers and full start-up. Adding decking or tile puts most projects in the $15,000 to $25,000 range. A job like this Anaheim one — new finish, new tile and trim, coping, a skimmer and plumbing replacement, new pump, filter and light, plus a custom rock slide — sits well above that. We give every homeowner a free itemized estimate broken out by scope rather than a single number.

Thinking about adding something while the pool is already open? Baja steps, shallowing, a spa, waterfalls, deck jets and trim tile are all far easier during a remodel than after one. Read the pool upgrades guide →
